About Shane

Born here, raised here, and raising a family here – Shane Gibson knows Floyd County. He graduated from Floyd Central High School in 1989, where Shane and his brother (Sean) were members of the school’s basketball team which is famed for their advancement to the state’s final four.

Shane attended Indiana-Purdue University at Fort Wayne (IPFW) and played collegiate basketball, while also obtaining an Indiana University Bachelor of Science degree concentrating in business.

After graduating from IPFW, Shane went to work for Galen Healthcare in Louisville as an accountant. He was responsible for the corporate records of several hospitals and their subsidiaries. While at Galen, Shane learned how to work with corporate finances, balanced numerous accounts, prepared budgets and accounted for revenues and expenses.

Following his corporate experience, Shane attended the University of Louisville’s Brandeis School of Law. He graduated from the school in 1999 and then passed both the Indiana and Kentucky Bars.

Shane currently serves as corporate legal counsel for the City of New Albany. He oversees all legal affairs relating to city government. He has served as lead counsel for six years and worked for two administrations, gathering invaluable experience through the trials and tribulations of dealing with a wide array of issues. In addition to legal matters, Shane has worked with the legislative body of the city – the city council – to draft legislation, solve legal conflicts and analyze budgetary items. He has also worked to redevelop the city and promote smart economic development and infrastructure improvements.

Before working for the city, Shane operated his own legal firm. He specialized in several areas of law; however, a substantial portion of his practice dealt with assisting those in need of help relating to their families and children. Operating his own legal office also taught Shane how to manage a small business. He understands the difficulties small businesses face in managing payrolls, budgets and accounting for revenues and expenses.

Shane also has served as Floyd County’s First Deputy Prosecutor, where he protected people by going after individuals charged with major felonies. He was involved in cases relating to murders, drug dealers and possession, and domestic violence, among others.

Shane believes in serving the community and ensuring that the needs of the community are addressed by its elected officials. He has been involved in budgetary issues at the local level and has a background in small business, large corporations, and accounting, all of which will be beneficial as District 72’s next state representative.

Shane is devoted to his family. He is married to Shannon, and the couple has three children -- Keeton, Asher, and Nora.
